Worldwide Testimonies
Interview with Norbert Schrage, Head of ophthalmology in Germany: ‘Diphoterine is very strong when the corrosive chemical is intense.’
PREVOR: Why is Diphoterine® stronger than other rinsing solutions?
NS: I published this in a thirty-year retrospective study comparing different types of rinsing and corrosive chemicals, Diphoterine® is very strong when the corrosive chemical is intense. Unlike other rinsing solutions, Diphoterine® relieves the pain but, from a wound healing point of view, there is not much difference. With sodium, there is a big statistical difference.
Interview with Mickaël Dupont: ‘Diphoterine® solution is active, unlike water’
PREVOR: What benefits of using Diphoterine® solution instead of spring to mind?
M.D. : Diphoterine® solution is active, unlike water which will only rinse the chemical on the surface. This rinsing method does not prevent the chemical from penetrating the skin and has no absorbing effect. It takes long minutes of rinsing to be effective, unlike Diphoterine® solution. This solution has this absorbing effect, considerably reducing the risk of wounds on the skin and in the eyes.
Interview with Lucien Bodson, Anesthesiologist in Belgium: ‘We must specify chemical burns because these burns are of another type’
PREVOR: What’s your first memory of Diphoterine®?
LB: In 1993 I saw a demonstration that struck me, Diphoterine® was used to neutralise a strong acid or an alkali of the same intensity. I checked that it wasn’t rigged because it was so fast; I was impressed. After that meeting, I bought a few bottles to test in my department.
Interview with Hélène Duval, nurse at Smurfit (paper mill): ‘Those who are most exposed have Diphoterine® solution on their belts’
PREVOR: When did you first find out about Diphoterine® solution?
Hélène Duval: I used it for the first time when I started working for Smurfit. I hadn’t heard about this product until my nursing colleague told me about it. I quickly read up about it and started to use it. I then did prevention work at several levels, especially during OHS sessions. Since I have worked here, I must have used it about thirty times, especially for eyes.
Interview with Jean-Luc Fortin, A&E physician: ‘Chemical burns represent 10% of burns’
PREVOR: Before using Diphoterine®, how did you treat chemical accident victims?
JLF: We rinsed people with water with unreliable results. On eye damage it was ineffective, the people involved had sequelae. This was also the case for skin. In the speed of action, if the person was rinsed immediately, we could have an effect, but this was rarely the case and by the time they got to the hospital, it was too late.
Interview with Damien Poirot (Beurrière d’Isigny): ‘Diphoterine® is definitely quicker than water!’
PREVOR: When did you first find out about Diphoterine® solution?
DP: It must have been over ten years ago: we learned how to use it on the skin and eyes. If the protocol is followed, it works really well: we had two accidents on the same day within two hours of each other in 2019; the protocol was correctly followed, and there were no marks or sequelae afterwards.
Interview with Annie Valorteaux (nurse at Creuzet Aéronautique): ‘Diphoterine® is more practical than water from a visibility point of view’
PREVOR: What benefits immediately come to mind when talking about Diphoterine® solution?
AV: I find the product good, but I haven’t had to use it on a major accident yet. For minor accidents, it’s very effective, between the reaction time and the proximity of containers. We have sprays as well as cases containing all the Diphoterine® solution products possible.
Interview with Lucie Montignies, Safety Communication Officer at l’Oréal: ‘Diphoterine® is practical and easy to use’
PREVOR: When did you learn about Diphoterine solution?
LM: When I started my job, Diphoterine® was already used. We started to provide training where we talked about the product which met needs in the field. I’ve been able to see its effectiveness for myself. Diphoterine® is available in fifty points on site.
Interview with Carlos Arellanos, Occupational health physician in Mexico: ‘Thanks to Diphoterine® solution, there were no sequela’
PREVOR: How do you manage a situation where a worker is splashed by a chemical?
CA: We all know the protocol for the timely use of the solution in emergency situations. People on site are well trained. When these accidents happen, I know that the managers know how to handle them. I work nine hours a day and cannot be there all the time if an accident happens.
